McDade Roberts have a proud tradition of pushing ourselves and enjoying sporting activities. One of our team of accountants, Katie Grayston and her husband Tim decided last September that they needed a challenge for 2015, after both completed a few sprint distance triathlons.
To keep up the challenge, they opted for the Marlow 1/2 Iron distance event. This involves a 1.9km swim in the river Thames, 90k bike ride followed by a 20k run over 4 x further than a sprint event they had done in the past.
Katie and Tim began their training plan after Christmas, training 5 days most weeks. Both sets of grandparents and their niece Rachel provided a fantastic babysitting service and Katie said she couldn’t have done it without them.
Tim, a local teacher, had visited Brian House children's hospice with the children from his school on a number of occasions and always came home saying what an amazing job they did providing support for sick children and their families. Katie and Tim decided that as they had worked so hard at training, they should raise some money for them and have now raised over £800 in sponsorship.
The day itself was fantastic and all the training paid off. Katie finished in 5hrs 58mins and Tim in 5hrs 07mins. According to Katie, the hardest part in the end was the nerves and not being able to sleep the night before.
In summary Katie said “We are both really chuffed with what we have achieved. Looking for the next challenge now...”
