McDade Roberts Accountants have a dedicated payroll department that over 300 local businesses outsource their payroll headaches to so we interviewed them about the confusing topic of Auto Enrolment.
The numbers of businesses due to ‘stage’ for Auto Enrolment in 2017-18 is now hitting the smaller micro employers (1-4 staff) at the rate of over 100,000 per quarter from April 2017 and they must comply with the Auto Enrolment rules. Is one of these businesses yours?
Any business that has employees MUST comply and there are serious fines for non-compliance. Fines can be a fixed penalty of £400 plus a daily penalty dependant on headcount. According to the Pensions Regulator, between July and September 2016, 3,758 fixed penalty notices were imposed on employers that had failed to set up and/or run pensions for their staff in accordance with the new government legislation.
Here is what Christine Richards, Accountant at McDade Roberts Accountants Ltd says you should do:
“Whether you have an existing pension scheme or not, you absolutely must ensure that you comply with the government’s pension reform regulations. Any old pension scheme will not do.
“Following the rules means following the new regulations the government have put in place for your company pension and you also have a duty to explain all changes to your staff.
“The good news is that we are here to help.
