McDade Roberts Accountants in Preston and Longridge are known for many sporting achievements while they are not engrossed in spreadsheets. Sponsored by McDade Roberts, one of our talented accountants, Chris Carter, proved to be a valuable member of the Westgate 2nd Cricket team recently, proving he can add value to cricket scores as well as businesses accounts.

On Sunday 4th August Westgate 2nd Team played in the finals day of the Westmorland Cricket League - British Rose Cricket Division 2 Cup - hosted at Ingleton Cricket Club after progressing through the group stages and winning their quarter final tie.

They were drawn against Penrith 2nd XI in the semi-final who sat 3rd in the league table, with Westgate 3rd bottom of the league, as huge underdogs, a tough game was in store.

Westgate were on first and batted first, posting 186/2 in 20 overs. Chris scored 62 not out off 62 balls, with Rory Briggs scoring 48 not out from 29 balls. Garry Tattersall earlier scored 28 off 30.

In reply, Westgate managed to restrict Penrith to only 174/6 from their 20 overs. The pick of their bowlers being Joel Frith taking 3-25 off his 4 overs and Garry taking 2-35 from his 4 overs.

The other semi-final then took place between the top 2 in the league, Coniston 1st XI and Settle 2nd XI in which Settle came out on top – winning the game by 17 runs.

Westgate bowled first in the final and managed to bowl out the top of the league side for 95 runs. Wickets were shared between Matthew Hannigan, Andrew Nisbet, Sunil Naikwadi (all 2 wickets each) and Ryan McMenamin with 3 wickets and a run out. It proved a perfect bowling and fielding display from the whole team to restrict a very strong side to a low total.

With the target set of 96 to win the cup, Westgate lost their top 3 batsmen for only 14 runs (including Chris) but Rory Briggs won the game with an unbelievable innings scoring 71 not out from 30 balls, including 8 4's and 5 6's! Rory scored 119 runs over the 2 games without getting out, some effort!
