McDade Roberts Appointment with the King

On Monday 9th February 2026, the usually bustling pens and pathways of Clitheroe Auction Mart took on a special guest as His Majesty the King made a memorable visit to Lancashire’s rural heartland. Our very own Christine Richards, Director at McDade Roberts was also on the guest list!

Christine says, “It was a day that blended livestock, community spirit and royal recognition, celebrating the resilience at the core of farming life.

Local farmers brought their sheep and cattle to exhibit. Their stock represented connections to the land and the economy that sustains so many families in Lancashire. It was an exciting day, alive with rural conversations.”

The highlight of the visit saw the King unveil a commemorative plaque and deliver a thoughtful address. He spoke about the challenges facing today's farmers including market pressures and unpredictable weather but also about the importance of gathering spaces like Clitheroe Auction Mart.

Prominent rural business advocates and professional advisers who make it their mission to champion the countryside were invited which is why Christine was on the list. McDade Roberts are well known in the region for our specialist support of rural businesses so it was an honour to be included.

As independent chartered accountants and advisers, we offer tailored expertise in agriculture alongside wealth management, tax and business planning; all delivered with a friendly, approachable style that our rural clients value. We are more than happy to get our wellies on!

Directors and staff from McDade Roberts are regular attendees at events that matter to the agricultural community, helping farmers and rural enterprises navigate issues from succession planning to financial resilience but it is not often we get to meet the King!

If you would like to chat about anything to do with the challenges and opportunities for rural business in Lancashire, why not give Christine a call.
